Everybody Loves Free Stuff!

Yesterday while at a home Canisius College Men’s Basketball game I watched as the cheerleaders threw t-shirts into the crowd (most like girls – ok I’ve said it – sue me but it’s true) following a three-pointer.  Wow but people love free stuff, don’t they?

Anyway, it got me thinking about those t-shirts and their excellent adventure getting into the hands of the adoring (perhaps a hyperbole) crowd.

  • The game presentation folks decide to do the promotion during a specific game.
  • A sponsor (another blog on how we get those cool people) is identified with the promotion.
  • Shirts are designed.
  • Shirts are ordered (hopefully by best practice purchase requisitions!).
  • Shirts are received and added to inventory.
  • Shirts are rolled up and banded.
  • The person responsible for game script adds verbiage for whenever there is a three point shot which identifies the sponsor.
  • Game staff bring the shirts to the arena where they are distributed by hand or canon (ask me about the canon story sometime!).
  • Adoring crowd receive random t-shirts!

At least 15 people are involved in the distribution of that one t-shirt.  Can you imagine?

What kind of promotions work at your school?  I would love to hear about them.

 Until next time,
