Be True to Your School: Musings from Buffalo NCAAM

This is my take on the tournament in Buffalo.  If you want an in-depth analysis of the X’s and O’s then you have come to the wrong place.  Leave that to CBS and ESPN.  This is, as Paul Harvey would say, is the rest of the story.

The great philosophers, The Beach Boys, said it best: Be true to your school, Rah rah rah rah sis boom bah!

Some musings from Round 1 at HSBC Arena in Buffalo where the only “upset” was #10 Missouri beating #7 Clemson:

Even a basketball junkie can lose steam after 11 hours of basketball.

Having the #1 seed Syracuse play #16 Vermont in the last game was silly.

Syracuse fans booing Vermont (I know they beat them in the tournament in, like, 12 B.C. but really?) was even sillier than the game beginning at 10:00pm.

Most exciting part of the first half of Gonzaga/Florida State was when the fans booed the FSU cheerleaders when they put jackets on.

It was casual Friday at the Arena when stylish <wink> WVU Coach Huggins was ready for his jog and Morgan State Coach Bozeman sported a jacket and no tie (he looked great, actually!).

Morgan State definitely won the Pep Band award.  FSU cheerleaders had the teenage boys in my group rapt.

Props go to the Gonzaga Bulldog mascot who actually got to the top of their cheerleading pyramid. Wow!

The most endearing mascot was the Syracuse Orange – it did this head spinning thing that cracked me up.  The best part of the SU game was when it rolled itself into a ball and started to roll. Cute.

I didn’t know Florida State had any fans at the game until they staged a bit of a comeback toward the end of the game.  Wow! If you are going to invest in coming from Florida to Buffalo at least support your team.

Gonzaga not only came the greatest distance they also had the best fans. Go Jesuits!

Buffalo is the best host!  The 50 degree temperatures sure beat the snow storm we had in 2000.
