If you want the highlights, that’s what the sport reporters do.  You won’t find any game notes here.  These are a few of my musings from the Stanley Cup playoff game in Buffalo versus Boston:

• Aluminum foil and coffee cans and you’ve got yourself one hell of a Stanley Cup!
• I’ve always loved the Pominville sign up in the 300 level.  Today it had a population 18,360 (I think, it’s close anyway, smile!) which I think is capacity.  When he scored they took down the 8360 and when Jay Moran made the announcement of the goal they threw the ripped pieces up as confetti.  Cool!
• Sabretooth coming down out of the rafters is always a cool bit.  It reminds me of the first time I saw that – when I sang the national anthem at the Pond in Anaheim and Dark Wing Duck (I think that’s his name) came down.  We had a pregame rehearsal and the Duck was, shall I say, headless so there was super high security to be sure no child saw a “headless” mascot.
• I like seeing the actual ticket holders in their seats.  Many people share during the season then get amnesia once the playoffs are underway.
• Now the security guards at the entries are not only public safety they are the branding police.  A lady had a few signs confiscated because they were “not brand neutral enough and a conflict with the branding at the arena.”  That was a new one!
• Playoffs make me nervous.  I try not to attach myself to a team like I used to years ago…I will never forget the 4 year Buffalo Bills Super Bowl run and my emotions.  But it was rough today watching a lead slip away.
• Everyone is into the playoff beard thing…quite frankly I think it looks silly on most men.  Also, if you are not a player, DON’T GROW A PLAYOFF BEARD!  I mean, seriously, don’t do it.  You just look like a silly poser.
• The parents of the little girl – maybe three or four (who wastes a playoff ticket on a little kid, such a waste?) made me laugh then think, yuck! She was adorable and they drew a beard on her.  Maybe they were making a statement of how silly playoff beards are or maybe they were just idiots.  I haven’t decided that one yet.
• And, the best line of the day (overheard in the ladies room after the game) “if they keep playing like this I am going to have to pluck my playoff beard!”
