#CABMA 6/18 – 6/19/10

Flew out on Friday, June 18th (my birthday) where I went backwards to NYC to then fly to Long Beach.  In a rare occasion the flight was 30 minutes early.  My shuttle reservation was nearly an hour after we landed.  Walking off the plane made me feel like it was 1950.  The airport is a real throwback.  I loitered in the little and relatively dinky terminal where I chatted with other travelers.  I finally went outside and got my luggage and got a phone call from a number I did not recognize.  The guy said he was at Grand Central Station and I could not believe that I screwed up my shuttle transportation that badly.  Who knew that the tiny parking lot and ramp was called Grand Central Station! A hoot!

Dinner was at the Napa Rose with dear friends.  It was wonderful and a great way to spend my birthday!

Saturday was the Doug Beard Memorial Golf Tournament at Coyote Hills Golf Course.  Thank God that being a good golfer is not required.  David Steele, Associate AD at Marshall University did a wonderful taking over the reins of the tournament when Doug passed away.  We had a great time and the course was very nice.  Nothing like golf and beer to pass the time away!

Sorry Dennis Heilsel, Director of Athletics at Chowan College, it really doesn’t look better big!

Committee Meetings:  Derrick Magee and Ross Cobb ran the Membership and Program Committees respectively.  I was in Derrick’s group.  The most interesting discussion we had was reaching out to Division II and II AD’s and bridging the gap between the institutional business office and the athletic department.

Informal Social: Michael Boele, Associate AD at Florida Atlantic University has been crowned Director of Fun by the folks who enjoy her enthusiasm.  A group of us walked to Downtown Disney and went to dinner with Brent and Steve from Weldon, Williams and Lick were generous hosts and I really appreciated Jeff Pritsker paying for the cab back to the hotel! Clutch!

James Gibson, long time Aggie and Assistant AD/Business at University of Montana has been charged with finding a place to do Karaoke to allow my inner diva to shine!
